Living Hope Lutheran Church’s next clothing give-a-way will be on September 8, 2015 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the old Chemical Bank located at 2370 W. Ludington across from the Oakridge Party Store. There will be a breakfast buffet on September 5th from 8:00am – 11:00am at the Lake Eagles 3761, 8460 W. Ludington Drive, Lake, MI ¼ mile west of the light on US 10. The cost is $6.00. Bloody Mary $2.00. 989-544-3761.



The monthly Swiss Steak Dinner at the Farwell United Methodist Church will be held on Thur., Sept 17, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.  The public is invited to come enjoy the swiss steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, hot vegetable, cole slaw, rolls, dessert and beverage.  The donation is $9 for adults, $5 for children.  Take-outs available.  Church is located at corner of Ohio and Superior St. in Farwell.



Mystic Lake YMCA Camp will be celebrating its 90th year on Sunday, September 6 at 4:00.

There will be families, alumni, donors, campers and community participants at Mystic Lake Camp to celebrate. The executive director will be delivering a “State of the Camp Address.” Activities will be open and include the rock wall, boating, archery and other traditional camp activities.  Archives dating back to 1926 will be on display.

Event takes place at 9505 W Ludington Dr. Lake.



The Lake George Boosters Club, 89 S. Bringold Ave., invites the public to play Euchre on Tuesday nights.  We start Tues., September 8.  Doors open at 6pm with cards starting at7pm.  The euchre night will continue through November 24.    Please bring a snack to share at the break if you wish.



Community Mental Health for Central Michigan (CMHCM) will be offering a Youth Mental Health First Aid course in September. The one day class, which will take place Wednesday, September 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Clare-Gladwin RESD building. The cost is $25.00 per participant. This includes the manual, refreshments and lunch. Upon completion, each attendee can earn continuing education (CE) hours. Pre-registration is required for this class.

CMHCM serves a six county area: Clare, Isabella, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola. The mission of CMHCM is to provide and support a wide range of services to individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. Brown Corners Church invites you to a special Sunday Service on September 13th. It is Tailgate Sunday. It will feature lots of food and fun as we move everything outside! Our guest speaker, Gunnar Hanson is a former Navy Seal turned pastor. Gunnar came to know Christ through a series of poor decisions while serving as a U.S. Navy SEAL in San Diego. Continental breakfast starts at 8:00 am followed by Gunnar’s testimony and special music. Worship service will start at 10:00 am. We will have food and games following the service. Michigan State University Extension will be offering two Discover the Fun of Dehydrating Produce and Herbs classes on September 15, 2015. One class will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and the other will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at the Clare County MSU Extension office 225 W. Main Street Harrison, MI 48625.

The class will provide an overview of the drying process of fruits, vegetables, herbs and meat. Each attendee will receive resources to use at home and the opportunity to sample dried product.

The cost of the training is $10; scholarships are available for participants enrolled in the SNAP or WIC programs. Pre-registration is requested and can be made by registering on MSU Extension’s Events Management site: for the day time program or for the evening program. The Lake George Boosters Club at 89 S. Bringold, North of Lake George has finished their Club House remodeling. We will be starting our first Saturday of the month All-You-Can-Eat Breakfasts, September 5 and have them through December 2015. Our yard sale will be Friday and Saturday, September 4 & 5 from 9-4. The Annual Chicken BBQ will be Sunday, September 6 at 4 pm and our next casino trip is in October.



The Farwell Veterans of Foreign Wars meets every month on the 2nd Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. They meet at the Clare County Senior Community Center at the N.E. Side.

Dress up as your favorite superhero and join the Clare-Gladwin Area School PTO for the first  Hero 5K Run/Walk onSaturday, September 26. For an entry fee of $20, runners and walkers will begin the 3.1 mile race at the Area School at 9 a.m. A Fun Run/Walk will also take place along the Children’s Nature Path at no charge.

Proceeds will be used to enrich the environment and educational opportunities for the special education students at the Area School.

Pre-registration is open until September 14. Mail the registration form found at along with payment to the Clare-Gladwin Area School, 4041 E. Mannsiding Rd., Clare, MI 48617. Those who pre-register are guaranteed a t-shirt.

Get Your Glow On! Glow Run is aimed to raise funds to help people who have been diagnosed and living with HIV/AIDS within the CMDHD program service area. The program provides comprehensive support, HIV / AIDS care, case management, and referrals to address needs such as insurance issues, primary medical care, food, housing, transportation and counseling.

This year’s fundraiser is a Governor’s Council endorsed competitive 5K chip timed run or a 5K fun walk held at Island Park in Mt. Pleasant on September 11, 2015. Medals will be given out to first place male and female runners in all age groups. The participants will receive a participant gift while supplies last. We encourage racers and spectators to come in their glow attire.

This is a family friendly event and so we encourage all age groups to attend. Registration is simple! Log on to and register.
