THE FIRST OIL BOOM PRESENTATION
Mt. Pleasant Area Historical Society, in lieu of the regular monthly meeting,  will join the public Tuesday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Park Library Auditorium of the Mt. Pleasant campus of Central Michigan University for slide presentation and discussion of “Mt. Pleasant Oil Capital of Michigan: The First Oil Boom: 1928-1939″ by Jack R. Westbrook, author of  nine photo history books and one historical novel.

Westbrook will draw upon his many books about and photos of Mt. Pleasant history and his rich knowledge of Michigan’s oil and gas industry to explore the tone of the times during Mt. Pleasant’s first oil boom. The presentation is a part of the Clarke Historical Library’s Summer Speakers and a reception will follow the presentation, where books will be available for sale and autographing. The general public is invited.

HEALTHY MICHIGAN PLAN ENROLLMENT CLINIC CLARE
In an effort to ensure that residents have access to the Healthy Michigan Plan, Michigan’s new low-cost health insurance option for adults, Community Mental Health for Central Michigan and Mid Michigan Community Action Agency have partnered to offer a Healthy Michigan Plan Enrollment Clinic, Wednesday, July 9th at 5:00 pm located at the Clare CMH 789 North Clare Avenue P.O. Box 817 Harrison, MI 48625.

MARSP MEETING
The Clare County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will meet on Tuesday, July 8 at noon in the Michigan Room, Mid Michigan Community College Harrison Campus.  The guest speaker will be Ron Bushong from the Clare County Road Commission.  Remember your contribution for our Toucan Food Drive.  For more information contact Vice President Connie Coughlin at 539-3076.

ALL YOU CARE TO EAT BREAKFAST BUFFET
The Lake George Boosters Club invites everyone to their monthly All You  Care To Eat Breakfast Buffet. We are located at 89 S. Bringold north of Lake George.  We serve from 8am to 11 am on July 5.  Proceeds go toward
our College Scholarships.

GLADWIN AREA FRIENDS OF THE THEATRE PRESENTS: INTO THE WOODS
Gladwin Area Friends of the Theatre will be presenting “INTO THE WOODS” with music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Book by James Lapine on July 9, 10, 11, 12 at  8 pm in the Gladwin City Park Amphitheatre. The cast/orchestra consists of community members from Mt. Pleasant, Gladwin, Beaverton, Rose City, Midland, Harrison and Clare.

Tickets are $10.00 per person and available for purchase at Gladwin City Hall, Lyle Flowers, The Medicine Shoppe, Village Flowers, Beaverton City Hall and Beaverton Pharmacy. COUNTRY QUILTERS QUILT SHOW
Country Quilters of Weidman will host their Annual Quilt Show and Demonstration during Weidman Days – Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   A hand quilted queen size quilt “Labyrinth” will be raffled at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.

Raffle tickets 6 for $5 or $1 each are available from any member of the quilt group or can be purchased at the show.  Ticket holders need not be present at the drawing.

Location for the quilt show is the Community Center, 5918 West Bridge Road, Weidman (behind Isabella Bank).  Admission is free.

D.A.R.E. SUMMER CONCERT
The Gladwin County Sheriff Department D.A.R.E. program proudly announces Grammy winner David Ball will star in the annual D.A.R.E. summertime country music concert. David Ball first topped the charts with “Thinking Problem” and followed that with “Riding With Private Malone.” This is a concert no country music fan will want to miss.
The concert is Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Beaverton High School. Tickets are $18.00 in advance and $23.00 at the door. NORTH CENTRAL AREA REGULAR MEETING
Regular meeting of North Central Area Chapter #19, State Employee Retirees Association, will be held Tuesday, July 1, at the Houghton Lake Community Building (located back of The Pines Theater), beginning at 2 p.m.

MOTORCYCLE LIGHT PARADE
On the evening of June 28th at 9:30 pm, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association local chapter (J-2 Clare Michigan) will be holding a lighted bike parade thru the streets of Gladwin as part of their weekend of camping at the Gladwin County Fairgrounds.
They will be forming the parade about 8:30 pm at The Corner House Ice Cream on M-18 and travel west on Pratt Lake Road to Chapel Dam Road, south to M-61 and east back thru down town.

LAKE GEORGE BOOSTERS CLUB YARD SALE
The Lake George Boosters Club is sponsoring a Yard Sale at 89 S. Bringold, Lake George.  It will be Thurs., July 3 & Fri., July 4 from 9-4 and Sat., July 5 from 8:30 to Noon.  The proceeds will go to The New Building Fund.
