The public is invited to come to the monthly Swiss Steak Dinner on Thursday, June 19, 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Farwell United Methodist Church.  Menu includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, Cole slaw, rolls, dessert and beverage.  Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children.

Living Hope Lutheran Church is having there Free Clothing Give A Way on Tuesday June 10, 2014 from 9:00 am to 3::00 pm  and we have lots of new stuff this month. However, because of vacations,  we will not be open in July but will be back in August ready to go.

Mark your calendars  we are also having a series of seminars which we hope you will attend.  The first one will be on Trusts and Wills / Power of Attorney on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 6:00 pm.  The second one will be on  Elder Care/ Medicaid  and Long term care on July 16, 2014 also at 6:00 pm.  The third one will be on Common Scams-

Fraud, Identity theft and  Accurate Credit Scores September 17, 2014 at 6:00 pm.  These will be conducted by Attorney  J R McGraw and are free.

The Clinic Will Run From June 16 – 20, 10:00-11:30, Monday – Friday, At The Harrison City Park Tennis Courts. Any Child Ages 7-14 Years Old. Bring A Tennis Racket If You Have One. If You Do Not Have A Racket, There Will Be Rackets Available At The Clinic. Players Must Wear Tennis Sneakers, Shorts, Or Sweats, Weather Permitting. Tennis Balls, Drinks, And Snacks Will Be Provided.

It Is Not Necessary To Pre-Register. Just Show Up At The Tennis Courts On Monday, June 16th, Fifteen Minutes Before To Register. Parent Or Guardian Must Register Their Child That Day And Must Sign The Injury Waiver Claim. If You Can’t Come That Day, Come Any Other Day. Any Questions, Call Ron At 539-0637.

The Clare County Sheriff Department will be conducting two ORV Safety Classes this Summer.  The class dates are all on a Saturday and will be conducted on June 21st and July 19th.  Each class is limited to the first 30 that sign up for the class by calling the Front Desk Staff at the Sheriff Department 989-539-7166.
The class will run from 9am to 5pm each day.  Students only need to attend one class to become certified to operate an ORV.  This class is FREE.  Deputy James Dawson will be the primary instructor.

On Monday July 14th the Foundation of Wellness Professionals will be holding two free classes one at 12:00 PM and one at 6:00 PM. The classes will cover Natural Solutions to Female Health Problems.  Seats are limited to 10 per class and they will be held at 701 Beech St.  Clare, MI 48617.  Call 989-418-1744 to register.

The “Fizz, Boom, Read” Summer Reading Program at the Harrison District Library is offering lots of great, free events: Bubbleman, a magic show, animal programs, storytelling, theater, games, movies, story times, and much more!
Registration begins on Monday, June 9th and prizes will be given all summer long for all the reading the kids are doing.  Anyone who finishes the Summer Reading goal by August 2nd will receive a free book and a certificate, and they’ll be entered in the drawings for grand prizes.  This year, kids will be entered in drawings to win a free Kindle!

The library kicks off the summer with  Bubbleman on Tuesday, June 10th at 10:30. There will be huge bubbles, square bubbles, smoke-filled bubbles, and Bubbleman always has new incredible things to show us, so make sure to be there! The following week, on Tuesday, June 17th at 10:30 we›ll have an amazing magic show from A2Magic’s Jeff Wawrzaszek, and after that the Mount Pleasant Discovery Museum will be at the library to show off their traveling bee exhibit.

There›s also plenty for the older kids this summer! Ages 12 and up can call the library to register to play Minecraft and other games on Wednesday, June 11th at 2:00, and then the next week, teens can join author Ari Berk as he reads and chats with us about writing his books. The following week, teens can learn to design cool cupcakes with decorator Tammy Carlstrom.

The Clare Conservation District is sponsoring a Native Plant sale on Thursday, June 19th from 6-8 p.m. @ the Clare United Methodist Church Community Room.  Refreshments are provided.  Please visit our web page @ or our face book page for more info.  989.539.6401

The Gateway Community Band will be at the Shamrock Lake Pavilion in Clare for their 10th Annual Independence Day Celebration Concert.  On Friday, June 27th, starting at 8:00 pm, a fine program of American and Patriotic music will be presented.  Sharing the conductors platform for the evening, will be retired band director, Jon Hawkins and current Gladwin band director, Ed Falls.  Part of the program will include a new Lloyd Conley arrangement titled “U.S. Armed Forces Salute”.
This stirring composition features the service songs of all five branches of our military, complete with trumpet calls and drum cadences that will rouse the pride we all share for our troops.  As always, admission is free and donations are accepted.  Bring your friends and your lawn chairs to this wonderful event.  Fireworks, provided by the Clare Summerfest Committee, will follow the concert at dusk.  For more information about the band, visit their website at or on Facebook at Gateway Community Band.

The calendar of events and activities are in full swing at the Pere Marquette District Library as they begin “Fizz Boom READ” on Tuesday, June 10th with Project 120 at 10:30 a.m. with Mrs. Heidi Gallagher.  Project 120 is program designed to draw children into reading by the development of fine motor skills.  Preregistration is required for Project 120 and all students 2nd-6th grade are welcome to attend.
Back by popular demand is The Bubble Man on June 10th at 2:00 p.m.  Ron Lloyd, The Bubble Man, will be back at PMDL to share his bubble creations.  The Bubble Man is popular with people of all ages.
On Thursday, June 12th come by PMDL for a free movie and popcorn.  On Tuesday, June 17th Magician Jeff Wawrzaszek will be here at 2:00 pm to dazzle summer readers with some amazing magic.  Funding for the summer reading program events is provided by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and Art Reach of Mid-Michigan.
Thursday, June 19th is Mine Craft day. Pre-registration is required.  6th grade students and above will be in the lab from 1:00-2:00p.m.  1st-5th grade students will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Busy Bee Storytime is for all ages and held in the lower level on Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

Brown Corners church will be hosting the Fifth Annual Yard Sale to benefit Love Inc. of Clare County.  Love Inc. (Love in the Name of Christ) brings community churches together to pool their resources and volunteers to help those in need.
This sale will be held at Brown Corners Church, 5 miles north of Clare on Old US 27. Check it out on Thursday and Friday, June 19th and 20th  from 8 a.m.  to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 21st  from 8 a.m. until noon.
