Harrison elects two, recalls three BOE members

Therese Haley and Douglas C. Cobb were elected to the Harrison Board of Education for four years in Tuesday’s School Election. Haley had 672 votes and Cobb 399.
They will fill the positions of Raye Lynn Walraven, who was defeated in her bid for re-election with 293 votes and the seat of Shelly Schultz, who did not run for re-election.

Farwell BOE discusses four-year capital budget plan

Farwell Area School Superintendent Dave Peterson explained the various capital improvements on the agenda for the next four years at the Board of Education’s Monday night meeting. The only item on the list that has gone out for bids is the repairs to the schools’ roofs.

Former Clare Board of Education member Susan Murawski won a return to the board in Tuesday’s school election. With 173 votes, she will fill the seat of incumbent Gerald E. Schmiedicke, who was defeated in his bid for re-election with 69 votes.

College Day at MMCC

Mid Michigan Community College will be hosting a College Day on Tuesday, May 6th from 9:00 to 10:30a.m. on the Harrison Campus of MMCC.
This free event is an opportunity for area residents to learn more about various colleges, universities, and military agencies. The event is open to high school juniors and their parents, as well as current college students considering a transfer or those contemplating starting college.

Farwell BOE meets in Lake, discusses Special Ed bussing

Farwell’s Board of Education is looking at the possibility of contracting with the Clare/Gladwin RESD for Special Education bussing. Currently, there are two bids to take over Special Education transportation; the low bid from Laidlaw Transportation for the 2008-09 school year is $160,147.80.
