Brookwood 2.0 – A Youthful Perspective
Dear Clare Community, I am writing this letter in response to the recent banter about the Brookwood 2.0 project. It is my hope that the context from which I am writing will help to add a fresh flavor and perspective to this boiling pot of stew that is Brookwood 2.0. I am writing as not only a recent student athlete and graduate of Clare High School, but as an even more recent collegiate student athlete and graduate from a college with artificial field turf. More importantly, I am writing as a young adult that has a life completely vested in [...]

Sequester, and politics
Dear Editor: Who else is sick of the word Sequester, and soon to be fiscal cliff here again very shortly. The Sequester, penned by President Obama was an across the board cut that was to loom over the heads of Congress to push them into working together to solve this budget issue. My humble opinion, after being involved with politics on the research side for many years now, is that this sequester was always meant to take effect. Why you ask would that be the case? Well, when you follow what actually goes on over there in the stinkhole we [...]

In defense of the Constitution
Dear Editor, On March 6 (and 7) of 2013, history was made. A Junior Senator from Kentucky by the name of Rand Paul, pulled out an old-fashioned filibuster in defense of our liberty. He didn’t read from a phone book like Strom Thurmond did so many years ago, but he came with a binder of basic civics lessons and proceeded to talk. And talk. And talk. And people listened. Contrary to what mainstream media may tell you, CSPAN-2 (that boring channel you usually skip over on your local television provider) received its highest ratings ever. People all over the country [...]

Gregory is a win-win for Clare
Dear Editor, After reading the transition in Chiefs and finding that Brian Gregory was appointed Chief, this will probably be the best move Clare has made in a long time. This is going to be a winning situation for Clare. In looking for a Chief you have to maintain balance, public relations and the authority and willingness to make tough decisions. Some go years to school to focus on these traits. Brian is a natural. Good job to the City Commissioners and there is no doubt that Chief Brian Gregory is one of the best moves you have done for [...]

Here’s how the Supreme Court Works
Dear Mike: In response to your column today in the paper, you must not understand how the Supreme Court works in respect to Prop 8. It has gotten to this level because of two specific cases and some were already heard in lower cases that are now being heard by the Supreme Court. Blaming Obama shows that you have no understanding. Perhaps the fact that Obama has a law degree from Harvard probably gives him more knowledge on the subject than what the citizens of California do. You must understand that the law plays a part in this, not opinions. [...]
