Capitol honors Friese
State Rep. Joel Johnson, R-Clare, welcomed Gladwin Fire Department Chief George Alward and his wife Polly to the state Capitol for a memorial of the 11th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon buildings. The Sept. 11 ceremony also honored Michigan first responders and members of the military who gave their lives in the line of duty during 2011 and 2012. Grant Township looking at road projects next year
Following a lengthy report from Designer Steven M. Clark of Rowe Professional Services Company, Grant Township’s board discussed the township’s roads and what could be done to improve them. The board had originally decided to do some road work this year, but decided to have Rowe conduct the study of the roads before they decide what should be done. “We decided it would be better to put together a plan to spend the money wisely,” Supervisor Dan Dysinger said. Clare County Committee of the Whole appoints two plus application for a taser grant
The Clare County Committee of the Whole met Wednesday after the conclusion of the county’s Board of Commissioners meeting. It got quite a bit done in its short meeting with the approval of a grant application and two appointments. The appointments were placing Kim Kennicott on the Airport Board and Brian Tomaski to the Department of Public Works. Kennicott was reappointed to a two-year term ending on August 1, 2014 while Tomaski was appointed to a three-year term set to expire on August 1, 2015. Surrey takes first step to open roads to ORVs
After some discussion Tuesday evening, the Grant Township Board voted unanimously to approve sending a letter to the Clare County Commission asking them to open all roads in the township to ORV use. The matter has been under discussion at the township meetings for about two months, with township residents asking for the change since the county ordinance, approved by the township earlier, has caused problems for many.
