Clare Public Schools free and reduced price school meals
Clare Public Schools students that qualify for free and reduced price school meals will receive an application during the week of Feb. 6 for the chance to receive an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card that can be used to buy healthy foods for their children this summer. Made possible by a $460,136 grant awarded to the Michigan Department of Education, the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer for Children Demonstration (SEBTC) will randomly select 5,000 students from public school districts in Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Midland, and Tuscola counties to receive $60 per month in food benefits during June, July, and August [...]
Clare BOE recognizes JPC, Regional cross country champions
Both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams were singled out for honors at Monday’s Clare Board of Education Meeting. Superintendent Doniel Pummell said the boys’ team, including Jonathan Harper, Tanner Vida, Brandon Frank, Jake McFadden, Kam Hawley, Kevin Spicer-Torres and Hunter Nivison, were Jack Pine Conference Champions; took sixth place in the Michigan High School Athletic Association finals and earned Team Academic All-State. The girls’ team did just as well, she added. They were also JPC Champions; won the Regional Championship; took ninth place in the MHSAA finals; and earned Team Academic All-State. Parents complain about bullying at Farwell
By Pat Maurer Review Correspondent Two Farwell parents have said they are concerned over incidents of bullying at the high school recently. Heather Smith (formerly Pardo) said her 17 year-old son was involved in and injured in a fight January 18. “He ended up being taken to the hospital in an ambulance,” she said. “He was assaulted by a 15 year-old in the hallway of the high school.” “Something needs to be done,” she continued. “This is not the first time. By Mary Kindig Review Correspondent Monday night’s Harrison Community Schools Board of Education meeting was sparsely attended, both by Board members and the public. Three school employees sat in the audience, and only four Board members were present: President Marie Roth, Treasurer Floyd Dennis, and Trustees Therese Haley and Dan Pechacek. Most of the 45-minute meeting was devoted to legislative and other updates, given to Board members by Superintendent Thomas House.
