By Ben Murphy Sports Writer The Clare boys’ varsity basketball team hosted Roscommon on Friday and topped the Bucks handily, 71-46 in Jack Pine Conference play. “We were pretty aggressive on offense early in the game,” Clare head coach Rob Wise said. “Our post players were doing a nice job getting position and finishing.” Clare netted 21 points in the first quarter to lead 21-9 after the first and pulled ahead 39-20 at the half. However the pesky Flying G’s were still sent home with a loss by Clare in Jack Pine Conferenec girls’ basketball, 63-55. “Gladwin played us very tough,” Clare head coach Matt Rodenbo said. “We got them down around 16 two or three times and they were able to come back. We did not rebound like I had hoped which gave them the opportunity to come back.” The Lady Pioneers controlled play early on, leading 16-6 after the first quarter. By Ben Murphy Sports Writer They didn’t get a win for their efforts but the Harrison boys’ basketball team continued to show marked improvement Monday night, falling 56-50 in a non-conference boys’ basketball game. “(Lake City) is a very good team with good size and very athletic,” Harrison head coach Jim Hoshield said. “Our boys came out on fire and ready to play, like I knew they could. By Ben Murphy The Farwell girls basketball team played at Roscommon Monday night, falling 45-25. Further information was not available at press time. On Thursday, Jan. 16 the Lady Eagles hosted Meridian, falling 53-50 in overtime. Farwell took a big lead after one quarter of playing, leading the Lady Mustangs 21-11. Meridian began its really in the second quarter though, cutting the Farwell lead to 30-24 at the half. Meridian held Farwell to just five third quarter points and took a 38-35 lead entering the fourth. Farwell took its turn making a rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring Meridian 11-8 [...]
