Farwell Team takes Tenth at the Soo

Tommie Bauer Racing of Farwell, Mich., turned in solid performance at the 44th Annual I-500 Snowmobile Race in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., February 4, 2012. Backed by drivers Cody Badour of Lake, Mich., and Chad Bauer of Farwell  Mich., the team finished 10th on an Arctic Cat  21 laps behind winners Gabe Bunke and co-drivers Aaron Christensen and Bobby Menne of Moorhead Minn. who captured the checkered flag on a Polaris. Cold Cash 123 named World Champion Quarter Horse

Born March 8, 2008, raised at T-Bill Stables and owned by Walt and Carolyn Bay of Arthur Township in Clare County, “Cold Cash 123” was recently voted “World Champion Racing American Quarter Horse for 2011.” The three-year-old gelding is the first Michigan bred horse to win this honor Carolyn said. Cold Cash is the foal of mare Hot Cash 123 and sire Oak Tree Special, who was World Champion American Racing Quarter Horse in 2003. Clare wrestling – 6 Medals in Reed City

The Clare Varsity Wrestlers blazed through the snow storm on Saturday morning to attend Reed City’s sixteen team individual tournament. The Pioneers are missing some key members in their line-up but that didn’t stop six Clare wrestlers from going out and bringing home a medal. In the 145 pound weight class, junior Dominik Herkel earned himself a 4th place medal after a tough loss in his finals match to Cormac Bevins of East Grand Rapids by decision, 6-4. Clare Ski Team busy

Clare Ski Team has been busy this past week, competing in two conference events: the Saginaw Heritage Invitational at Apple Mountain and the Central Alpine Ski Conference Meet at Snow Snake.  At Apple Mountain, both boys and girls teams claimed second place. Top Pioneer finishers were first place Jeffrey Staten in slalom, second place Madi Cleary in slalom, and third place Brett Acton in giant slalom. In the Conference Meet at Snow Snake on Thursday, the pioneer boys were victorious, taking home the title of Conference Champions. Clare girls basketball stays perfect in Jack Pine

The Clare High School girls basketball team improved to 9-0 in the Jack Pine Conference on Monday as it beat Meridian 54-39. Clare (12-1) jumped  out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Pioneers were led by Lindsay Winter, who had 23 points while Ashley Petree had 13 points with seven assists and five rebounds.  Melissa Benchley added 11 points and five steals.
