Pioneers, Eagles co-JPC track champs

By Ben Murphy The Jack Pine Conference track championships were held at Clare’s Brookwood Stadium on Tuesday, with the Clare boys winning their 10th straight league title, claiming a co-championship with Farwell. The Clare girls finished second, behind Gladwin. The Clare boys won the meet with 184 points, but Farwell finished in second and combined with the regular season dual record, the Eagles and Pioneers are co-champions. Harrison finished fifth with 82 points. “It was a great way to end the season from one of the youngest and banged-up teams I’ve ever coached,” Clare boys’ head coach Adam Burhans said. [...]

Clare baseball sees JPC title hopes dashed

By Ben Murphy Sports Writer Clare played at Meridian on Thursday, May 16 in a Jack Pine Conference baseball doubleheader that decided the league championship. The Mustangs walked away JPC champs behind 2-0 and 3-2 victories. Hunter Ruby suffered the loss for the Pioneers, pitching six innings, giving up two runs on three hits. The Pioneers had just three hits on offense, two of which came off the bat of Garrett Jenkins and the other off of James Baer. Harrison crowned JPC softball champs

Heat win Auburn tourney, 5-0

The Mid Michigan Heat 12U Girls Opened up there tournament schedule by winning the Riverdawgs National Qualifier tournament at Auburn Park in Auburn. The Heat opened up Pool play on Saturday with a 11 – 10 win against the host Lady Riverdawgs. Game 2 the Heat beat the Mid-Michigan Lightning from Essexville 15-3, Game 3 the Heat beat the Pinconning Thunder 12 – 8. Clare softball shuts out Gladwin twice, 6-0, 14-0

By Ben Murphy Clare earned two Jack Pine Conference softball wins Tuesday night, sweeping visiting Gladwin 6-0 and 14-0. Katya Halfmann earned the win in game one, giving up three hits while striking out eight and walking two. Bailey Reger led the Clare offense with an RBI double, Laura Walton and Ashley Petree had a single and two RBI apiece.
