Nine convicted in health fraud scheme

By Pat Maurer Correspondent A Mt. Pleasant Physician’s Assistant ‘s license was suspended June 5 by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). The suspension is based on the conviction of John Eric Roberts, P.A., of Mt. Pleasant last October 17 on charges of Conspiracy to Pay and Receive Health Care Kickbacks. Roberts was one of three Mt. Pleasant PA’s and nine health officials across the State, named in a U.S. District Court – Western District of Michigan indictment on fraud charges last April in connection with a $950,000 health care kickback scheme involving referrals to medical clinics [...]

By Cathy Taylor Correspondent Testimony began Wednesday morning in Clare County District Court in the preliminary examination of evidence related to the murder of Harrison resident Floyd Dennis. The honorable District Judge Joshua M. Farrell presided over the matter. Dennis, 68, was the owner of Kern’s Grocery in Dodge City as well as the treasurer for the Harrison Public Schools Board of Education. Justice for Payton- Trying to make sense of a toddler’s death

By Cathy Taylor Correspondent After nearly five months of police and coroner’s investigations, 19-year-old McBain resident Brittini Grabon was arrested on May 2nd, 2013 for the murder of her 14-month-old son Payton Disbrow.  And for many of little Payton’s friends and family members, the five-month wait has been extremely painful. On the morning of December 18, 2012, Brittini Grabon and her boyfriend arrived at Cadillac Mercy Hospital’s emergency room with Payton.  They reported to the emergency staff that the child was “in stress” and in need of medical attention.  Medical authorities at the hospital pronounced Payton dead upon arrival.  The [...]

Harrison landmark burns to ground- Faulty electrical wiring is culprit

By Pat Maurer Review Correspondent A landmark in Harrison for more than 30 years, the Remedy Restaurant, owned by Dennis and Karen Douglass, was destroyed in an early morning fire April 2. The fire call came in at 3:13 a.m. Tuesday, said Harrison Fire Chief Pat Agin later in the morning. Seven escape house fire

By Pat Maurer Review Correspondent A house fire that may have been started by a woodstove completely destroyed a Harrison Home Sunday morning. Four adults and three children lost everything in the fire, but they are all thankful no one was injured in the blaze.
