| Bits & Pieces - Mother’s Day is Sunday |
| 8 May 2008 - 14:39 by Administrator Columns | comments (0) |
It doesn’t seem possible that it can be here again already, but it is. Wasn’t it just February? Suddenly the leaves are all out, flowers are blooming and yes, the dandelions are back again. There aren’t quite as many as I have written about in years past, but I have a feeling it won’t be long until the whole yard is a sea of yellow blooms again. Read More... |

| You and the Law - Liberal & Conservative 2008 |
| 8 May 2008 - 14:21 by Administrator Columns | comments (2) |
by Richard S. Allen, Attorney at Law
Just what does it mean to be a Liberal or a Conservative in 2008? Looking at my own beliefs I find that I’m a strange combination of both. Abortion is supposed to be the litmus test of a real Conservative. I’m not only pro choice, but I think it would be good public policy to require abortions for girls 15 and under. That’s pretty Liberal. Read More... |

y Superintendent Dave Peterson
It has been a few weeks since I last wrote. This time of year is so busy working on what needs to be done to finish this school year and to plan for next year, sometimes I put off writing this article. Finishing a year can be a bit exhausting but the planning for next year is so exciting. Read More... |

Do you think the Clare City Police should be Deputy Sheriffs and be doing law enforcement outside the City? At least one City Commissioner doesn’t think they should. The result of his questioning the deputizing of city policeman got him the full court press from the Police Department. Read More... |

| The weekend of April 26th brought again the realization that it’s great to live in a small community. Around 10:00 p.m., the Clare County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a missing 11 year old boy in a remote, heavily wooded area of Winterfield Township. Read More... |

| Burning Issues - Be Safe; Get a Permit |
| 24 Apr 2008 - 15:23 by CCR Columns | comments (0) |
By Sam Eberhart Clare Fire Department Fire Prevention Officer
No one ever stops to think of the consequences that a simple spring cleaning burn can have, but they can be enormous. This time of year many people like to burn the brown, dead vegetation that winter has left behind in hopes of obtaining that lush green yard seen on the cover of Home and Garden Magazine. However, all to often those fires get out of control and the damages and costs can quickly mount if as a home owner you don't follow the basic rules of outdoor burning. Read More... |

With temperatures climbing into the sixties during the day, it’s easy to believe that summer really may be just around the corner. With that said, I have to tell you that a Gaylord salesman told me Monday that he had two inches of snow in his yard that morning. Ah Michigan… Read More... |

| You and the Law - Speak Out for the Day of Silence! |
| 21 Apr 2008 - 09:40 by CCR Columns | comments (0) |
Richard S. Allen, Attorney at Law
Well, here we are. April 25th, the Day of Silence. The day when school kids are supposed to stay silent in solidarity with gay, lesbian and transgendered kids, who, I guess, face silence from their peers because of their sexuality. It’s one of those silly “made for media” events designed to get the simple folks upset and let the sexually confused wring their hankies and feel sorry for themselves. It’s already generated some letters to the editor in the “if you only knew the hell we face” genre. Well, boo hoo hoo. Read More... |

| You and the Law - Expungement |
| 21 Apr 2008 - 09:12 by CCR Columns | comments (0) |
by Richard S. Allen, Attorney at Law
If you have a criminal conviction in the past that’s preventing you from getting a job or getting a job in a particular field, it may be possible to have that criminal conviction set aside. That’s called having your record “expunged.” If a court expunges your record it’s the same as if you hadn’t ever been convicted in the first place. Getting a record expunged, however, is tricky.
