‘Car Deer Season’ here again

Well it’s what we call here at the Sheriff’s Office, “Car Deer Season”.

Last year from October 1 through November 30, we had 220 car vs deer crashes reported to our Central Dispatch Center. For the entire 2016 calendar year there were 677 reported deer crashes, so as you can see of the total a 1/3 of them occur in the months of October and November.  Please slow down and don’t out drive your headlights.  In the years I was working the roads of this county I had several encounters with deer, mostly them running into the side of my patrol car.

We currently have 174 inmates in the jail which consist of 86 local, 54 renters, 30 Federal, and 4 DOC.  During the month of October 2017 the Clare County Central Dispatch Center logged 3,625 incidents.  Of the 3,625 incidents, your Clare County Deputy’s handled 2,344 incidents.

We investigated eight Home Invasion/Breaking and Entering complaints in October, two in Greenwood, and one each in Harrison, Hayes, Surrey, Freeman, Lincoln, and Hamilton.

On October 31, 2017 Rev. William Dyke, our Jail Chaplain and I travelled to Lansing.

Rev. Dyke was invited on behalf of the Clare County Sheriff’s Office to give the invocation at the opening of the House of Representatives session by our State Representative, Jason Wentworth.

We were able to attend a luncheon with several members of the House prior to the session starting, and spend some time with Rep. Wentworth.

If you have never been to our capitol to watch and see everything in the works you should do so.

We also had a nice visit with Senator Judy Emmons.

Our hearts go out to the families of Robert and Shani Corrigan who were gunned down in that horrible shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Robert and Shani graduated from Harrison High School in 1985.  I have a hard time even typing this as I do it.  The youngest victim of that shooting was only 18 months old.

These senseless killings that are occurring more and more across our country are just plain evil. Robert and Shani were both a year behind me in High School.  What an amazing life they led with their careers, family, and their faith in Jesus.

We need to pray for God to comfort all of these families that were touched by this.

God Bless
Sheriff John S. Wilson
