RayAugustienWhat started out as a little pimple on my forehead has progressed into a full blown case of Shingles. A lot of pain, my eyes are almost closed and in general I feel like crap. I didn’t remember having Chicken pox when I was a kid but in the 40s and 50s I suppose it was normal for kids to get chicken pox along with whooping cough and measles. It’s not anything I would wish on my enemies much less share with my family or friends.

Given a choice between having a tooth extracted or Shingles, I guess I would rather have the tooth extracted. Shingles affects the nerves in the area where the breakout is located. Mine was on my forehead and into my hair, and along the right side of my face. It was on my eye lid and eye brow, causing my yes to swell and close. Then whenever I would cough or sneeze it was like a million needles shooting through my face.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, the herpes varicella-zoster virus, or simply the zoster virus.
Most people get chickenpox when they are children. However, after the chickenpox has gone, the virus stays in our nervous system in a dormant (inactive) state. The virus does not become active because our immune system keeps it in check.

Later in life the zoster virus can become reactivated. If this occurs it causes shingles. Shingles is an infection of a nerve and the area of skin around it. A person is contagious to someone who has never had chickenpox. If someone is infected by some with shingles, they develop Chickenpox, not shingles. If you have had chickenpox you will not be affected. However you will still be susceptible to having shingles because of the Chickenpox lying dormant in your system.

I think we should box it up and send it to congress and the senate. Maybe if they all had a dose of it, they might move more quickly on settling the Obamacare question.

So I guess all you people should get a shingles shot , it’s better than the real thing.
