reading about this case is as sad as anything CAN be. There are two paragraphs, one from each article that is confusing. Both refer to this horrific case being reported prior to the infants death. If this is true, is the review or anyone going to follow up/dig into where the system failed?

Dear Mrs. Warren,
I am Summer Clark's mother, Kim. Funny how people come out of the woodwork and make judgements when they do not even know the facts. Just because you are a "retired licensed counselor" does not mean anything. Summer made the library what it is today, she should be given the credit for that. She is a wonderful person, honest to a fault, and fun. She was the one who made the library a place the kids wanted to hang out so much so they had to put an age limit without parents sign up. The patrons loved Summer as I do. So seeing what you said about her without even knowing her was wrong. Summer's point in all this was the way the library is being managed. All employee's should be treated equal, such as leaving without clocking out, coming and going as they please, taking as many cigarette breaks as they see fit, bringing their kids/grand-kids to work as long as they see fit then taking said kid/grand-kid to sitter/school taking an hour to do so. But all of a sudden Summer had to clock in and out and when she had no other choice she brought her baby in, thinking its OK since other did it. Being as smart as you implied in your letter you must know were I am going here. That's all Summer wanted and Ms. Gaskill wonders why she wants to leave. Also hiring her friend when there was not a job opening at a higher rate of pay why? Because she has contacts? So, are we forgetting this is Farwell what contacts do you need. Now for what I think about the salary of Ms. Gaskill $46,000 really!! Mt. Pleasant's library Director position was open starting at $60,000 that big library no wonder the library hardly has any books or movies, someone needs to buy more books and magazine. The magazine section is pitiful go to the Harrison library see how big there's is. Farwell needs an actual magazine rack/shelves. I visit many libraries across this country and our library needs help in the buying department, I know if that was part of Summer's job she would have filled that library up. I know maybe one of the board members should run the library for free so we can get some books in there. I may not be as smart as you Mrs. Warren but I think the library should actually have reading material in them so you won't have to always use Mel-Cat. Our computers there are horribly slow and frustrating maybe Ms. Gaskill should have gotten less of them but better computers. I go in there and many times only a few people are using them. So Mrs. Warren how's that for "sour grapes"?

Dear Mrs. Warren a.k.a. "Farwell Housewife". I find it extremely interesting that nowhere in your letter do you admit exactly who you are or your connection to this entire affair. For anyone else reading this, Mrs. Warren is the biological sister of Ms. Jean Gaskill, The director of Surrey Public Twp. library. Therefor as a former student of Psychology at M.M.C.C. and having a fair amount of experience with human behavior myself, I contend that her entire letter is nothing more than biased rhetoric. Also, someone who claims to be a retired licensed counselor should have the common sense not to attempt to judge a persons behavior or claim to have any insights concerning their reasoning especially when they've had maybe a grand total of two conversations with that person.

Mrs. Warren also claims that the library has expanded her access to information and books from across the whole state. What you may not realize is that virtually EVERY SINGLE library in the state is connected to a system called MeLCat. This gives access to EVERY SINGLE BOOK, from EVERY library in the state to EVERYONE with a library card from any one of Michigan's libraries connected to the system. Which as I stated, is virtually ALL OF THEM! So, this is nothing special. She also says she finds it refreshing to hear of an employer who values, rewards, and recognizes them. By how exactly I am wondering? By hiring friends and family at higher than average wages for no justifiable reasons and then firing those who question you about not only that but potential misappropriation of other funds as well?

Nice try Jackie, but I don't believe you're fooling anyone.

This is only the beginning of what is to be discovered. Clare County Courts have a can of worms that dates back for years. Michigan court Rules do not apply to them, or so they think. The officials assume that Clare County residents are too uneducated to know what their rights are. If they do, they feel they are too poor to hire attorneys to fight for them. They have ran under the radar of higher courts for decades and will continue to do so until it becomes a state or nationally advertised problem. glad to see the local press is finally stirring things up. but it will be an expensive and messy battle to do what needs to be done to clean things up. It will take time. More than enough time for them to cover their tracks if they feel the heat. I see they have already started. crossed out? really? Funny I've seen several documents requested under FOIA in the same condition. pretty sophisticated cover up. What a joke! I wish Rick Mills luck in this battle. It's way overdue!

The wronfully arrested in farwell in 2011. The case at the farwell school w/ the phone threats that amounted to speculation and cost to the accused for nothing.
Make no mistake it is your feelings of contempt and pity. Bring safety and cost concerns to any fundraising board or public shouldn’t be pitied or viewed with contempt. We wrote our concerns to a paper to reach the public with our legitimate concerns and will always bring safety concerns forward in one way or another. We will not be bullied. Any Concerns, however the means brought forward should be considered. In fact all concerns and comments should be posted as long as they are not vulgar. Censoring opposing views is not fair or balanced.

If you want to divulge your name to the public that is your choice and is fine but not all do and should not cancels out our concerns?

Let’s keep this to a factual debate.

There will be a public discussion when the DEQ has to notify the public that a part of the local Wetlands are being destroyed. Which brings us to our next question? Have you applied for the proper permits through the DEQ? You can verify this @ http://www.deq.state.mi.us/ciwpis/ciwpisqry.asp
We are not seeing that you have applied?

The Brookwood Complex Football Field is located less than 350 ft from the Tittabawassee River (South Branch Tobacco River) a protected wetland area. You may verify this @ http://www.mcgi.state.mi.us/wetlands/

Our Concerns need to be addressed

We believe you should have applied for a permit from the DEQ to see if they will allow artificial turf in a protected wetland? Artificial Turf requires the removal of earth and in this case wetlands and replaces it with contaminated toxic materials that will have to be disposed of and replaced every 10 years and FOREVER MORE. There will be test wells as potential leaching into the ground water, aqua furs and protected wetlands.

ONCE A ARTIFICIAL TURF FIELD ALWAYS A ARTIFICIAL TURF

The potential MERSA virus, increased injuries and fatigue, replacing turf where it can be grown along with the potential contamination of ground water are facts that must not be ignored.

In conclusion an artificial field will also require maintenance. Your board stated there is no budget money and does not appear to be any in the future. This artificial turf will require NEW ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED EQUIPTMENT. $$ How much will test wells cost? $$ Have you checked to the additional costs for policies, up grade warranty and vandalism issues and costs? $$

Again, not at the children’s, taxpayer’s and wetland’s expense

Signing for,

The children, taxpayers and wetlands
