October 31, 2011

The Civil War Monument at Cherry Grove Cemetery was removed on Monday October 24, 2011, to be refurbished  The monument was erected in the middle of the cemetery before 1900 by the Women Relief Corp to honor the soldiers that fought to keep our states united.

The refurbishing work will be done at the Bad Axe Marble and Granite Company in Bad Axe Michigan, the main office of the new Clare American Marble & Granite Works store located on Sough McEwan.  According to Scott Rambo, owner & manager, the refurbishing is expected to be completed in the spring of 2012.  There is a possibility the monument may be relocated to a more visible spot in the cemetery.
