Clare Fall Doughnut Festival and Main Street Spook-Tacular this weekend

Clare’s annual Doughnut Festival is scheduled for two days this weekend, October 21 and 22 all over town.

Local businesses have teamed up with the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street to bring a variety of events to town to celebrate fall and Halloween.

The annual Clare Main Street Spook-Tacular will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday with loads of events for the little ones. Costumes are encouraged and a Kids Costume Parade will be held at noon beginning outside the McEwan Street Subway and touring downtown.

Spookers of ages will enjoy the Skeleton Search in downtown businesses and a “Trunk or Treat” will be held in the Fifth Street parking lot.

Other Spook-Tacular events will include pumpkin painting, hay rides, clowns, and police.

A Fall Doughnut Festival King and Queen will even be named for the Doughnut Festival, which also features a “Lock-Up” at Cops and Doughnuts on Friday with all proceeds to benefit “The Thin Blue Line,” families of fallen police officers, Coats for Clare County and the Fall Doughnut Festival.

Friday events will include:

*The announcement of the winner of the Doughnut Idea Contest during the festival,

*Lunch and Dinner Specials at the Doherty Hotel on Friday and Saturday,

*Pumpkin Pie specials at the Mulberry Café both Friday and Saturday,

*Entertainment at Coffee Talk 505 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with Smokin’ George on the piano,

*The Pushwill Music Festival from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Whitehouse Restaurant,

*Rock and Glow bowling from 7 to 10 p.m., Open Mic finals at 8 p.m. and Karaoke and dancing at 10 p.m. all at Gateway Lanes,

*The 515 Gallery opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. celebrating their first year.

Saturday events include:

*The Mid Michigan Community Action Agency Emergency Food Drive to support the Food Pantry at Witbeck’s from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at Shamrock Park from 4 to 8 p.m.,

*An annual Arts and Crafts Bazaar and Bake Sale at the Clare VFW Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

*Donut Decorating at JT Bakers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,

*A Carved Pumpkin Contest from noon to 8 Fantastic Finds (moving to Shamrock Park at 4 p.m.,

*A parade at 1 p.m. from the VFW to Third Street,

*A Chili Cook-Off judging at 1 p.m. and a Chicken Pull at 2 p.m. at Bob’s Lounge,

*A Doughnut Hole Eating Contest for adults at 2 p.m. at Cops and Doughnuts,

*Pumpkin Carving at the Whitehouse from 2 to 4 p.m.

*Bowl Buster at Gateway Lanes from 2 to 4 p.m.

*A Hoe Down at Shamrock Park from 4 to 8 p.m. featuring the Partly Brothers and including a barn dance, straw bale maze, line dancing, and games,

*Cider and Doughnuts at Shamrock Park from 4 to 8 p.m. by Cops and Doughnuts,

*A Silent Auction at Shamrock Park from 4 to 8 p.m.,

*Newman’s School of Dance performance at Shamrock Park at 4:30 p.m.

*Children’s games at Shamrock Park from 5 to 8 p.m.

*Pumpkin Duck Pin Bowling from 5 to 8 p.m. at Shamrock Park by Gateway Lanes,

*A Cake Walk at Shamrock Park from 5 to 8 p.m. by JT Bakers,

*A Chicken Dinner at Shamrock Park from 5 to 8 p.m. by Bob’s Lounge,

*Rock and Glow Bowling at Gateway Lanes at 9 p.m.,

*DJ music, dancing and karaoke at Gateway Lanes at 10 p.m.
