Clare High School senior Kendra Ives was one of two students selected from the CTE Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program to attend the Ferris State University (FSU) Hospitality Gala on March 23 with CTE Instructor Heidi Rocha.
Organized by the FSU Hospitality Management program students, the annual banquet was held at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Big Rapids, and featured a five-course meal, silent auction, and live entertainment.
“This year’s theme was ‘An Evening in Emerald Isle’ and Chef Edward Hayden was flown in from Ireland to participate,” said Rocha. “I was provided with three complimentary tickets so that I could bring students who may have an interest in attending FSU to enter the Hospitality program.”
Rocha selected Ives, along with Melinda Walsh of Beaverton High School, based on attendance and work ethic in class, as well as an essay each student wrote describing why they wanted to go to the Gala and their career goals.
“I am so thankful we were given the complimentary tickets,” said Rocha. “It was a wonderful experience and learning opportunity for the students.”
