CCAC Quilt Show

Clare County Arts Council is currently looking for individuals who would like to display their quilt at the upcoming quilt show. The quilt show will be held on May 17 & 18 at the historic Clare Depot in downtown Clare. The cost is $5 per entry. The application is available on CCAC’s website, www.clarecountyartscouncil.info. Spring Rummage Sale

The First Congregational Church will be holding it’s Spring Rummage Sale starting Friday, May 3, 9 AM – 5 PM & Saturday, May 4, 9 AM – 3 PM. at the First Congregational Church, 211 W. Spruce St., Harrison.

Baby Pantry Diaper Drive

Clare County MSU Extension, 4-H, AmeriCorps, and Clare county libraries are partnering to conduct a diaper drive for the Clare County Baby Pantry. We need everyone to pitch in what they can. The Baby Pantry is open to moms who can visit the baby pantry each week to get diapers (up to age 3) and needed supplies for children up to age 5.
Drop-off boxes are located at the Harrison District Library, Pere Marquette District Library and Surrey Township Public Library until May 17th. Please call Maggie Mieske, MSU Extension 4-H/AmeriCorps member with questions: 231-539-7805.

Browns Corner Church Yard Sale His Helping Hands

His Helping Hands of Clare County will NOT be having a yard sale at Browns Corners Church this year. We are grateful for all of your previous donation. We always need donations of linens, towels, pillows, blankets, dishes, silverware, pots and pans and cooking items. We also need couches, chairs, end tables, lamps, dressers, dining tables and chairs. Our office is open Monday – Thursday 10am – 2pm. For more information please call 989-539-2064.

Living Hope Lutheran Church has a free movie and popcorn night at 6:00 pm. This month the movie is “ Far From Home, The Adventures of Yellow Dog.” This is a family , faith based movie everyone will enjoy. Free Food Distribution

The next Clare County Food Distribution and Nutritional Education event will be on Saturday, May 4th. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Harrison Palace Senior Center at 212 S. Broad St. in Harrison. The food will be distributed beginning at approximately 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot of the Clare County Building. All who want food will receive it as long as supplies last with the limitation of one food package per household. Patrons should bring a picture ID and reusable bags, boxes, or baskets if possible.
The event is being sponsored by Clare County businesses, Clare County CROP Walk walkers, and the Greater Lansing Food Bank. Free pedometers are being provided under a grant from Friends of Clare County Parks and Recreation (www.clarecountyrecreation.org/). The events are conducted by the Community Nutrition Network.

Blessing of the Bikes

The American Legion Riders Post 558 in Farwell are hosting the RAY RIOS RIDE to benefit the VA Hospital in Saginaw Saturday May 4. There will be a BLESSING OF THE BIKES at 2 p.m. In previous rides there have been as many 100 bikes; be a part of something good! The Legion post is located at 400 E Ludington Dr, Farwell, MI 48622. There is no fee or registration. For more information call 989-588-1550.

Clare County Arts Council Ironing Board Project

Clare County Arts Council is looking for people to create art piece from an old ironing board. The ironing boards will be available for check out on May 7 from 4-6pm at the Clare Depot in Downtown Clare. The boards will need to be returned by May 31 at 4pm.
Then the ironing boards will be on display from June 3 to July 12. On July 13, during the Art of Gardening event, the ironing boards will be for sale by silent auction. This event will be held at the Clare Depot.
The artist will received 70% of the proceeds from the sale of the ironing board.

The Lake George Boosters Club is hosting Summer Euchre on Tuesdays starting now through August 27. We are located at 89 S. Bringold, north of Lake George. You are welcome to bring a snack to share at the break if you want to. Doors open at 6:00 with cards starting at 7pm. The PUBLIC IS INIVITED.

The Clare County Democratic Party have their regular monthly meetings the 2nd Wednesday every month, 6:30 pm. Gateway Community Band and Gateway Community Chorus

Please join the Gateway Community Band and Gateway Community Chorus on Friday May 10th for their annual Spring Concert. The performance will take place in the Gladwin High School Cafetorium at 7:30pm. This year’s concert is titled “A Wonderful World of Music”. Those in attendance will be treated to songs from Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Britain and our very own Gladwin, MI. Trailblazer, a special Tribute to Ed Falls, will be featured and directed by Gladwin’s very own Band Teacher. Admission to the concert is free and open to all ages. Those interested in performing in the 4th of July concert are encouraged to visit the band’s website www.gatewaybands.org or Facebook page for a list of upcoming rehearsals.

515 Gallery Presents Ordinary Fixes & Volatile Solutions

The 515 Gallery of downtown Clare is excited to present “Ordinary Fixes & Volatile Solutions” May 11th through June 17th featuring artist Dietmar Krumrey. The public is invited to the free opening reception of this unique exhibit on Saturday, May 11th from 6-8 pm.
Dietmar Krumrey is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and curator, with degrees in literature and visual art. Krumrey’s performances have been screened across the US and Europe, and his sculptures and prints are exhibited both regionally and nationally. He currently teaches writing and literature at Central Michigan University.
