MICHIGAN WORKS! OFFERS TO HELP CLEAN UP THE CITY

Michigan Works! in Clare County is developing a one day volunteer clean-up event, partially sponsored by the City of Harrison and a grant from the Central Michigan Health Department to increase public awareness of physical fitness activities.

On May 23, 2014, Michigan Works! participants will be available to help local businesses “spring clean” from 1:00pm – 3:00pm to help with raking, washing, general painting, planting flowers and basic cleanup around the exterior of local businesses. Businesses have to supply the materials i.e. trash bags, paint, brushes etc… and participants will supply the general labor.

“This is one way of saying ‘Thank You’ to the many businesses that have been helpful with us starting our Michigan Works! Community Garden outside of the Harrison office,” Kasie Hendrickson, Career Transition Coordinator. “The ‘Garden of Journeys” was a name our participants came up with to signify how growing food and making positive changes in their lives are intertwined,” says Hendrickson who is also the Garden Coordinator.

If a business would like to have participants help “spring clean” their building or surrounding location, please contact Bonnie or Kasey at the Michigan Works! Service Center at 989-539-2173 with a list of chores that is desired to be completed. In order to organize the teams of helpers, it is desired to have the business requests in by Friday, May 16.
