Community Events – April 18, 2014

April 17, 2014

Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 6-8pm at Farwell High School with Dr. Bremer, only $10.

On May 24, 2014 at Island Park & Town Square, in beautiful downtown Mt. Pleasant, MI at 2 pm. March Against Monsanto is a global call to action aimed at informing the public. Calling into question long term health risks of genetically modified foods and demanding that GMO products be labeled so that consumers can make informed decisions.

Why we march: Protect our food supply, support local farms, protect our environment, promote organic solutions, expose the Cronyism between big businesses and the government, and to bring accountability to those responsible for the corruption. There will be speakers, information tables, entertainment, and a protest march to create awareness. Family oriented, come join in on all the fun. A truly free and educational experience.

“Future historians may well look back upon our time and write, not about how many pounds of pesticide we did or didn’t apply, but by how willing we are to sacrifice our children and future generations for this massive genetic engineering experiment that is based on flawed science and failed promises just to benefit the bottom line of a commercial enterprise.” – Don Huber, Professor Emeritus, Plant Pathology, Purdue University.

The City of Clare will celebrate the value of urban and community trees and announce its commitment to tree management during an Arbor Day celebration this spring at Shamrock Park.

The Tree City USA program, sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, the USDA Forest Service, and the National Association of State Foresters, distinguishes communities throughout the nation exhibiting a commitment to proper tree care and management.  For obtainment of this status, communities must meet four criteria.
These criteria include having a tree advisory board or department, adopting a tree care ordinance, investing at least $2 per capita in forestry programs, and holding an annual Arbor Day event.

The City of Clare and the Tree Advisory Board will celebrate their commitment to community forestry on Tuesday, April 22nd 2014, during the Arbor Day celebration.  The celebration will include the planting of about 10-15 trees throughout Shamrock Park from 12 noon to 2:30 pm.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend the planting event.
