Central Asphalt of Mt. Pleasant, incorporated in 1981, is ready for the spring construction season in mid-Michigan, said Aaron White, Vice President of Operations.

He said the company will be a sub-contractor under DJ McQuestions out of Leroy in the upcoming Michigan Department of Transportation’s complete reconstruction of Clare Avenue (Old U.S. 27) between Mannsiding Road and Gladwin Road (M-61). “The $1.5 million project will include some widening and drainage improvements,” he added.

DJ McQuestion was also the prime contractor in the construction of the round-about in Clare in 2009.

The current project will begin in early summer with an estimated completion date of August 16, White said Wednesday.

“We are also doing some paving for Mid Michigan Community College at their new Mt. Pleasant Campus,” White added.

Other Central Michigan Asphalt projects for the coming season include “a couple of miles of overlays in Midland County, some road projects for the City of Midland and the paving at the new Meijer location in Alma.

“There is not a lot of work in the Clare County area but the work is starting to roll out to be bid.” White said. “We are bidding several projects currently and hope to be successful when the bids are complete. With the lack of road funding and the work that is set to be done in our area there are just not a lot of major projects that are set to bid and constructed.”

“With the recent weather, we are hoping the calls will continue to come in and we will continue to bid active work,” he added. “We hope that the State will come up with some good ideas in order to maintain their current road system with some new funding ideas that will allow the money to get actively spent to maintain and help the Michigan economy at the same time.”

Central Asphalt is affiliated with Fisher Contracting of Midland, Fisher Sand and Gravel with operations in the Clare-Harrison area and a Redi-Mix operation in Midland, Fisher Transportation of Mt. Pleasant, Bay Aggregates of Bay City, Central Concrete of Mt. Pleasant and Alma and Midland Engine of Midland, an engine repair and maintenance facility and a new and used equipment dealer.

The corporation is also affiliated with Buck’s Run Golf Course of Mt. Pleasant.

The President of Operations is Vance Johnson.
