Saturday, September 24 is the day set by D & R Auto Sales & Repair to “say thank you” to all their customers.

This is the second time the business, in Clare for the past 20 years, has sponsored this type of event.

“We want to show our loyal customers that we really appreciate their business,” said Service Manager and Lead Technician Dave Cookson.

Cookson has been with D & R for the past five years and working in the auto repair industry for thirty years. He moved to mid-Michigan from Rhode Island six years ago.

Owner Richard Smith, originally from Perry, came to Clare when he opened the business here.

D & R has been at their present location at 1588 East Ludington Drive (between Clare and Farwell) for the past 17 years. Before that they were located on the south end of Clare for about three years, Cookson said.

He said the idea for the Customer Appreciation Day came because, “We needed a way to thank people for their support. We see a lot of businesses closing their doors these days. We are just glad we have been able to stay around for as long as we have.

He added that D & R, which is ASE (Automotive Society of Excellence) certified, handles “any type of service or repair on just about any make of vehicle. We are a full- service repair facility,” Cookson said.

Cookson added, “The world is so busy these days that we don’t always get a chance to say thank you. This is our way to express our gratitude to our customers for choosing us for their repair and purchases.”

The event, scheduled Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will feature free car washes, raffles for prizes including gas cards, gift certificates and service, refreshments and a Classic Car Show with a display of approximately ten to twenty vintage and muscle cars.
