What started as a hobby based from her Mom’s home in Loomis has become a new business in downtown Clare.
Fantastic Finds opened in June at 418 McEwan Street (Formerly Allen’s and Bell’s) between Willows and the Clare Fitness Center.
The family owned and operated business features quality used furniture, some antiques, home décor, candles, vintage and new jewelry and even some vintage clothing. It is the kind of store that brings back loads of memories and teases the customer into browsing for a truly “fantastic find” among the many, many delightful offerings on display.
Owner Lisa Hignite said the business quickly outgrew her Mom’s house. “We accumulated so much ‘stuff’ that my husband Alan said, ‘Get a store,’ so we opened this one. She said her husband still had to build a pole building just to store all the things that won’t fit into the store. “We won’t run out of merchandise for a while,” she said. Many of the things they offer come from estates. They also have sales on E-bay and Craig’s list and have a web page at fantisticfinds.net.
Future plans include adding in-house auctions. “In January, we will begin holding the auctions monthly, where people can browse before the sale and mark things they are interested in. Those items are then included in the auction.” The whole family helps out with the business. Next spring when the weather is nice again, they may be holding outside auctions behind the business as well.
“We want to urge people to shop locally,” Lisa said. The Christmas season will begin for them with a storewide 25 percent off sale on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Lisa has been in the area since fifth grade when her family moved to the area from Detroit. She is the former owner of Artistic Creations Hair Salon in Harrison, worked at Snowsnake for 15 years and was co-owner of the Dairy Phil in Clare. Husband Alan is owner of Lloyd’s Door Systems of Midland.
Fantastic Finds is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. Their phone number is 989-859-9625.
