The Clare High School Gymnasium will be filled with the sounds of Christmas on December 12, 2013 at 7:30pm, as the Gateway Bands present their 9th annual Christmas Concert, “A Blue Christmas Celebration.” Included in the concert for the first time, a sister group of the Gateway Community Band, under the direction of Michael Wright, the Gateway Brass Ensemble. Mr. Wright, a Clare Primary School music teacher, says, “This group will be performing three songs at the concert: a short, brilliant-sounding fanfare from the late Renaisssance (1684), a pair of head-bopping jazzy dances, and a very fun suite of Christmas carols (seven in total).” “This group was conceived by GCB members, while having dessert at Yogurt Yeti in Mt. Pleasant,” says Wright, “and is also a volunteer musical group for local brass players, rehearsing once a week for an hour in the Clare High School Band Room. It consists of twenty-five members, ranging in age from college to retirees, including several music majors from CMU.” To join this group, contact, Michael Wright at the Clare Primary School.
The Gateway Community Band, will perform some familiar Christmas tunes, “Blue Christmas,” “White Christmas,” an arrangement by Larry MacTaggart called, “Laughing All the Way,” based on the song, “Jingle Bells,” and a piece recorded by Manneheim Steamroller, “Celebration,” and much more. So join us in Clare for this dual concert celebration of Christmas. Admission is free, although donations are graciously accepted.
