Are you familiar with the phrase “when it rains, it pours”? Well, during the initial project at Joshua’s House, renovating a room into two private rooms, they came across some challenges. The existing roof of the building, which was graciously donated to them last year, was in need of replacement. It had been leaking in a few locations throughout the home already, however as they assessed the cost of repairs, they came to the realization that the roof’s days had been well served and it was time for a replacement. “Structurally the building is very sound” remarked Jeffords, the Executive Director of Joshua’s House, “but in order to keep everyone safe and our equipment from being damaged due to the water coming in, we must replace it immediately.
This is a large project for this organization. Already they have raised the funds for dividing a large room into two private rooms for the new moms, but the materials list to complete this additional project was ten times what they had planned!
Stepping up to the plate to support their efforts to “Care for our future, one mother at a time”, are business owners and local residents Jim Benchley and Joni Landmesser. “Both of these wonderful people have realized the need and are willing to help facilitate the fundraising efforts to ensure a safe location for both our mothers and their babies,” said Jeffords.
Listed below are the materials required for a new roof for the home. As you look through the list, perhaps you might have some of these materials already in your garage or basement that you would be willing to donate. They may be left over from a previous project or a change in plans. Joshua’s House would be delighted to put them to good use!
On Saturday February 16th and Friday February 22nd, donations of materials will be accepted at Joshua’s House Maternity Home located at 508 E. Fifth Street in Clare. A team will be receiving donations in the red garage area of the property from 11:00am until 2:30pm. Coffee, doughnuts and hot chocolate will be available to those bringing items for the project. Donation receipt forms will be available to those who request them for tax purposes. Joshua’s House is a 501 © (3) non-profit organization.
