Local educators participate in ‘transition’ focus group

Local teachers and administrators took part in a focus group on March 27 to discuss the transition of students with special needs from high school to life beyond high school.

The round table discussion allowed participants to share their input with the Michigan Transition Outcomes Project (MI-TOP) on the opportunities available to students with special needs in the areas of employment, post-secondary options, and independent living. MI-TOP is an organization that facilitates the development of effective systems that support post-secondary outcomes for students with disabilities.

Area participants included Harrison High School Special Education Teacher Laurie Aleck, Beaverton High School Special Education Teacher Sharon Koscielski, Clare-Gladwin RESD Special Education Supervisor Hugh Lewis, Clare-Gladwin RESD Transition Job Coach Vicki Longnecker, Clare-Gladwin RESD Assistant Superintendent for Special Education Rick Monte, and Clare-Gladwin Transition Program teacher Mary Orloski.
