Parent Coalition builds awareness of current drug use trends

Ten Sixteen Recovery Network Prevention Coordinator Sarah Kile informed local parents and community members of today’s most pressing drug issues during the “Get the Scoop on Drug Use Trends” ice cream event held by the Clare-Gladwin Great Start Parent Coalition on June 26. With input from Gladwin County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Norm Gage, Kile covered the topics of prescription drugs, meth, and synthetic drugs, such as K2 and bath salts.

“Tonight is about adults realizing that they’re the ones that can make a difference in our communities,” said Kile. “It’s important that parents have a constant conversation with their kids, even at an early age, about what they are putting in their bodies and if it’s healthy.”

Kile also recommended steps parents can take to better protect their children, including the “monitoring, securing, and disposing” of prescription drugs.
