The Clare County Arts Council is featuring Monica Rouech of Clare, Michigan as their February Artist of the Month. Monica will be showing pencil drawings at Campbell Printing, 406 N. McEwan St. in Clare where she does graphic design.
Monica has been drawing since she could hold a pencil. While mostly self-taught, she has been using pencils, colored pencils and crayons from an early age, drawing from old photographs or pictures found in greeting cards or animal books. In high school, she would draw portraits of her friends for $5.00 each.
Monica moved to Clare at the age of 18 and began taking art lessons from Bettie Rae Stevens. While she loved learning different techniques painting or drawing sceneries and still life, Monica still prefers drawing with pencils which lends itself to detail and accuracy. She specializes in animal portraits and loves drawing people.
Visit Campbell Printing through the month of February where Monica’s artwork is on display. Since she also works there, you can ask to meet her and ask her questions about her art, preferably in the late afternoon, as they keep her very busy during the first half of the day. Take along a photo of your favorite pet. Monica would love to transform your picture into a beautiful pencil drawing. She will be available from 4:30 to 5:00 after her shift and 2:30 – 5:00 on Thursday, February 28th. Her phone is 989 240-0632.
