McLaren Central Michigan welcomes Board Certified Family Practitioner Henry Szelag, DO to the employed medical staff. Dr. Szelag, a long-time Mt. Pleasant resident, has been practicing family medicine at his practice in Weidman, the Weidman Area Health Clinic, for nearly 25 years, and sees patients of all ages.

“As a physician, I feel privileged to be able to do what I’m doing,” Dr. Szelag said. “I enjoy interacting with people, and when I can be of help, it reinforces what I do.”

Dr. Szelag graduated from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University. He completed an internship and a residency at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital in Garden City, MI before moving to Mt. Pleasant and opening his Weidman practice. Dr. Szelag is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Isabella-Clare County Medical Society, the Michigan State Medical Society, and the Weidman Lions Club. He also served as Chief of Staff of the then Central Michigan Community Hospital in 1997.

“I have always been affiliated with Central Michigan Community Hospital (now McLaren Central Michigan), and have been very impressed by the current leadership with Mr. Bill Lawrence as President & CEO,” Dr. Szelag said. “I’ve chosen to join the McLaren Central Michigan medical team not only to preserve the level of care provided at my practice, but hopefully to expand our services.”

Dr. Szelag has also served his community in a variety of volunteer capacities through the years, including as a sideline physician for Sacred Heart Academy and Beal City Public School football teams; as a preceptor for physician assistant students at Central Michigan University and medical students at Michigan State University; and as a primary care provider at the McLaren Central Michigan Free Clinic.

Dr. Szelag and his wife of 38 years, Carla, have three adult children: Fredric (and Angie), Benjamin (and Ashlee) and Lee Ann, and two grandchildren – Audra, 4 and Luke, 1.

Dr. Szelag’s office is located in Weidman at 3520 N. Woodruff Rd. The Weidman Clinic is also the office of Physician Assistant Lacey Gardner. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Szelag or Lacey Gardner, PA-C, call (989) 644-3329.
