Walk For Warmth

January 18, 2013

Mid Michigan Community Action Agency is seeking walkers and sponsors for its annual Walk for Warmth event to help keep the heat on for families that are struggling financially. What better way to enjoy a crisp winter day than strapping on your boots and giving back to those less fortunate?

The Walk for Warmth event will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2012at 10:00 a.m. and will kick-off from Clare Primary School in Clare. Funds will benefit the Emergency Utility Assistance Program.

A cold home in the winter is more than just uncomfortable – it’s dangerous. Families that face heating emergencies, particularly children and the elderly are at an increased risk for illness and have a more difficult time succeeding at work and school.
For over 20 years Mid Michigan Community Action has helped families stay safe and warm.

In 2011, 445 households were helped across the six counties served by Mid Michigan Community Action Agency. Of those, 272 homes were occupied by children under the age of 18. Also helped were senior citizens, people living with disabilities and veterans.
Trivalent Group, Inc. has once again returned to Walk for Warmth as a Gold level corporate sponsor. “As a company, we receive dozens of requests to get involved in worthy causes. Ultimately we had to decide what was most important, and where the most need was. One of the core areas was Essential Human Needs – and during the winter months, providing heat for those in need, is truly essential!” Said John W. Hey, Chief Services Officer at Trivalent Group. “Supporting Walk for Warmth aligns with not only our giving philosophies, but also our culture of community involvement. The Walk for Warmth is just another reason why Trivalent is so honored to be a small part of what gets accomplished at MMCAA.”

Walk for Warmth in Clare County is just one of many events held on February 23. Each year Mid Michigan hosts six Walk for Warmth events in each of the counties served by the nonprofit. They include: Bay County (at Messiah Lutheran Church), Gladwin County (at Gladwin Masonic Lodge), Midland County (at Trinity Lutheran Church), Clare County (at Clare Primary School), Mescota County (at Big Rapids Middle School) and Osceola County (at Reed City High School). The Walks are held outdoors and boast a casual, fun atmosphere with hot beverages and snacks provided. Mid Michigan Community Action welcomes residents and business to walk or sponsor their local Walk for Warmth by visiting www.mmcaa.org.

Sponsors for the 2013 Mid Michigan Community Action Agency Walk for Warmth events include DTE Energy, Trivalent Group and Chemical Bank at the Gold level and Elm Creek Lawn & Landscape, Michael Oil & Propane Co., Stanford LP Gas, ACCU Air Heating & Cooling and Greene’s Gas Company at the Silver level.
