Wilbur W. “Bill” Weldon, age 83, of Clare, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 2, at his home. He was born the son of William M. and Mildred (Haines) Weldon on Mar. 30, 1928, in Hamilton Twp. near Gladwin. Bill married Joan Pifer on Feb. 2, 1948 and she preceded him in death on April 12, 1988. On June 17, 1989 he married Louise Clute-Melnek and she survives him. Bill had worked most of his life as a Pipeliner. In his retirement he owned and operated a campground, collected and restored tractors, was a member of the 20 Lakes Tractor Club, and farmed. He was a member of the Eagle Church of God.
Bill is survived by his wife “Louise”, children, Beverly (Charles) Magnus of Clare, Sandra (Lorne) Bay of Farwell, Susan (Floyd) German of Sanford, Karen (Fred) Magnus of Ohio, William (Rosanne) Weldon of Indiana, and James (Becky) Weldon of Boyne City, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, step-daughters, Tina Melnek and Deanna (Scott) Rakestraw, a brother Delmer, sisters, Isabel Edick, Irene Muma, Jean (Lloyd) Bowen, and Joan (Don) Chaffee. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan, his daughter Cheryl, a brother Dale, and sister Doris Reed.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 1:00 PM from the Eagle Church of God with Pastor Jereme Bear officiating. Burial will be in the Beaverton Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, and Tuesday at the church from noon to 1 PM.
