Farwell Elementary release Salmon… On May 1st, the students at Farwell Elementary released 53 Chinock Salmon into the Manistee River at Tippy Damn State Park . Tom Rozich from the Michigan DNR talked with the children about being responsible anglers and about why classroom hatcheries are important to the salmon. Most importantly, he shared how important it is to take care of the watershed area so the salmon have a clean place to come back to in the future. From there, the students traveled to the Harietta State Fish Hatchery for a tour of the race ways and went fishing in the nearby river. This has been a great experience for the students at Farwell Elementary and when asked if we should do this again next year they replied, "Definitely!"
