To the Editor,
Living in the village of Lake Station, Michigan I am pleased to see that efforts are underway to renovate the depot. Repairs, power washing, paint and flowers have renewed the depot and given the village a fresh look. Cleaning and work on the inside of the depot are also in process to preserve and display many artifacts from the past. Plans are also in place to paint the caboose, which is sitting on the track next to the depot.
It is my opinion that preserving the history of our village and sharing it with residents and visitors creates pride and adds value to our community. People who use the Rails to Trails path can enjoy the depot as they travel by the station. I am happy to see my tax dollars being invested in this project.
If you haven’t driven through Lake Station recently, you might want to take a few minutes to do so. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to see how nice the depot looks. If you would like to see the inside of the depot, stop by the township office. Someone might be working who could unlock the depot so you could go in for a look. Or you can call the township office at 989-544-2445 to set up an appointment to visit the depot.
