Baker is Wrong, Less Bashing Needed!

January 20, 2020

Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to the January 3rd issue of Alternative View, “The Cult of Trump” by Robert Baker. Perhaps a better name for this would have been “How to Denigrate Millions if Christians/Americans in 500 words. I should be used to the verbal abuse of Never-Trumpers, but when a “supposed” man of God joins those voices, I will take issue.

As a man of God (as “Reverend” would imply) Mr. Barker should know that God commmands that Christians respect those in authority; for there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Romans 12:1 Many Christians at many times, have not found this easy to accept, but God has his purposes.

One of Barker’s initial complaints is against an extensice, and highlyesteemed, list of Christian evangelicals, whom he notes are WHITE, is this not racist, Reverend? Barker assesses the groups evengelical motivation, in support of Trump, as being due to the “threat of a less of power and influence”. With what do you base your accusations against these men? Remember what God has said: He who speaks evil of another and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judge the law… There is one lawgiver… who are you to judge another? James4:11-12

The Reverend widens his judgemental scrutiny to include all Trump voters stating that we “prostitute our beliefs and sense of morality in supporting the President”. This President is pro-life, pro-Israel, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-God and pro-USA. How could a man of God object to any of these stances?

It’s sad that this political climate is beyond disrespectful, bordering on vicious and devoid of facts. Never-Trumpers will have a chance in November, but in the meantime, less hashing of fellow Americans and more unity, for the good of our country, is what is needed.
