Citizens could save Hayes Center

Dear Editor,

Maybe it is time for the citizens of Hayes Township to come to the monthly Township meetings. I don’t know how many residents are aware of the closing of the Civic Center; but maybe it is time to open your eyes and see what is happening around you.

This building was a place where people could come to walk and exercise, for groups to come together to play indoor sports, etc. It was also the voting pole for Hayes Township.

The Township Board is now talking of destroying the building and rebuilding. It was closed because of the furnace not being repairable. To replace the existing ones, would cost around $14,000 to $20,000. This does sound like a lot of money; but think what it would cost to first tear the existing building down. How much to get rid of materials and how much to rebuild?

Hayes Township taxpayers should have some say in this before it is too late, don’t you? Hope to see you at the next meeting on November 19, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Hayes Township Hall on Townline Lake Road.
