Defending Sheriff Wilson

August 30, 2012

Dear Editor,

After reading an article in the August 24, 2012 Review regarding Sheriff Wilson, I was appalled at the accusations Mr. Bancroft made in his letter to you and for you to print and condone such lies.

Evidently, Mr. Bancroft has never lived in such communities as Livonia, MI, Northville, MI or Novi, MI. His statement accusing Sheriff Wilson of being a socialist couldn’t be further from the truth. I know, I grew up in Livonia and lived in Novi. I have experienced their socialism. Mr. Bancroft hasn’t a clue.

Obviously, Mr. Bancroft has never met Sheriff Wilson nor has he ever seen how a law enforcement agency works. The deputies under Sheriff Wilson follow the laws and enforce such laws. How do I know? I am a Reserve Deputy for Clare County Sheriff’s Department. I have also been a reserve police officer for Dearborn Heights, MI for 12 years and a Deputy Sheriff in Sarasota, Florida for 2 years. I have a college education in Criminal Justice and I have been through the Michigan Police Academy.

The accusations that the Sheriff’s Department pick on low income residents is an absolute lie. I have never seen anyone in that department “profile” anyone because they are poor, middle class or wealthy. When you break the law, you are given a summons. You have a constitutional right to appear in court to overturn that summons.

I have met and spoke with Sheriff John Wilson. My interpretation of Sheriff Wilson is 180 degrees from Mr. Bancroft’s. Furthermore, I am a Republican. BUT, just because I am a Republican does not mean I vote a straight Republican ticket. I never have and most likely never will. I vote for what is right and what the politician can do for America.

In the fifth paragraph of Mr. Bancroft’s letter, he states he was misinformed and hoodwinked about Mr. McClellen, but then turns right around in his P.S. and states he is going to vote for him. It sounds to me he is a confused individual and has a personal grudge against Sheriff Wilson.

My advise to the readers of this letter is to look around you. Do you see mass murdering and countless armed robberies here in Clare County? Then why do you want to fix something that isn’t broke?
