Freeman Township votes for a 28% raise

Dear Editor:

I attended the Freeman Township monthly meeting on Feb 14th, 2013. At this meeting the Board voted to give the Township Clerk a 28% ($4143) RAISE. The Clerk has always been out spoken about wanting more money, yet she ran for the office knowing full well what the position paid. This is a part time position, and I don’t know about the rest of you, but I feel that NO ONE is worth a 28% ($4143 increase).

While most of us are tightening or belts, our public officials should be leading by example, and not abusing the trust the public has put on them. I can understand a cost of living increase, but not 28%

To make matters worse, the decision to give this raise was decided at a meeting where proper notice wasn’t given to the public, violating the Open Meetings Act.

It was then voted on at a Township Meeting, where the public was also NOT notified that pay of these Officials was going to be acted upon.

It is still not too late!!! The Official vote for this years budget, will be following the public hearing on March 14th, 2013, at 7:00 pm. You can show up at this meeting to protest this OUTLANDISH raise, or you can also call the Township Supervisor, Al Housler at 588-3011 or the Township Hall at 588-2752 to let them know you are not in favor of such a large, unnecessary increase.
