Right to D&E Abortion Ban Petition Half-Way

November 4, 2019

Dear Editor:
At the end of June 2019, Right to Life of Michigan launched a statewide petition drive to ban dismemberment abortions in the state of Michigan.  The dismemberment abortion (a.k.a. dilation and evacuation or D. & E.) is the most commonly used procedure during the second trimester of a mother’s pregnancy to terminate the life of the preborn child growing within her womb.  As the name implies, the child’s body is pulled apart (dismembered) by the use of a grasping instrument with rows of sharp teeth. In 2018, 1,908 preborn children in Michigan lost their lives in a dismemberment abortion.

Mothers of these children are also victims: They risk physical injuries from the procedure such as uterine perforation, cervical laceration, infection, hemorrhage, future pregnancy complications, and maternal death.  Mothers and Fathers together are victims of a persistent misinformation campaign that tells them how the preborn child is not a child deserving love from conception or that they will not experience the adverse consequences of grief, distress, confusion, regret, and a deep sense of loss.  Becoming a more supportive community of mothers and fathers in pregnancy situations is also an area in which we can all improve upon.

Presently, Right to Life of Michigan has received over 200,000 valid petition signatures which takes us just over half way to our statewide goal of 400,000 by the end of November.  To all who have helped us reach this milestone – thank you!

Now, while we are making great strides, we need to keep the momentum going until we reach our ultimate goal.  At this time, Clare County has not reached its county wide goal of 2,000 valid petition signatures.  That’s why Clare County Right to Life, an affiliate of Right to Life of Michigan, is sending this urgent message to all church leaders and to all people of good will to assist in gathering petition signatures to ban dismemberment abortions in Michigan.  Please consider organizing a petition drive in your church, block, or community.  Petitions can be ordered free of charge at www.michiganvalueslife.org.

Petitions can also be obtained  by contacting CCRTL at 989-240-1119, by emailing  clarecountyrtl@gmail.com  or they can be picked up at JT Bakers in Clare  Wednesday – Friday from 8:00 am to noon.

Together we can end the dismemberment of preborn children in Michigan.
