Voters be aware of bond cost

May 2, 2019

Dear Editor,

I have followed the different viewpoints regarding the Farwell Schools bond proposal and attended a town hall meeting organized by the Superintendent. BE AWARE.  Of the total proposed cost of over 41 MILLION dollars; we taxpayers will pay over 17 MILLION dollars in interest expenses alone. Of the total dollars proposed, ONLY 20 MILLION dollars is for actual improvements for our kids and over 4 MILLION is allocated for other “FEES”. Review and absorb those numbers again please.

It almost appears that the Board of Education (BOE) and the Brighter Safer group are misleading voters by not exploring the other options available. Under their existing plan, taxpayers must know that the BOE will be back in the near future requesting even more taxpayer money. The BOE must consider the other options available and go back to the drawing board and create a plan that does more then just throw money at a problem.

The current proposal was not created using community input. Unfortunately, it was designed by an outside contractor with no taxpayer input. WHY? Please review the above dollar amounts again and then Vote NO on the current Farwell Bond proposal. There are better options to consider.
