What a shame

Dear Mike,

What a shame for the Village of Farwell to send our only “patrol a packing”. Many visitors and citizens depend on them for info as well as safety, especially in the crime we all live in.

We country folks pay dear on taxes so the city folks feel much safer? We see the raises you gave, yet our security doesn’t matter?

“Shame On You”

We country folks sure do miss your paper.

A caring citizen is missing your smiling face and good humor Mike.

Why couldn’t the Village of Farwell team up with Surrey Township and just hire a police officer? The county is already overburdened and has no money, so take the money that was being spent before and do something good with it. Shoot, Farwell and Surrey could even have mutual aid agreements with Clare City and Clare County. If my memory serves Farwell was spending 24k a year on the deputy that was in town once a week. With that being said, why can’t Farwell share with Surrey? What’s a refurbished Crown Vic cost with all the equipment, maybe 15k? So split that cost too. It just seems that there is a logical solution to this problem so that the majority can be happy. I would like to hear the Sheriff and his opponents chime in on this matter to see if they have a better solution. Another thought, if Farwell and Surrey get their own officer, just post him on Superior Street in Farwell. The money from the tickets written to morons that speed up and down might be enough to hire two officers!

Oh, and Bigd I generally agree with your posts. However, when it takes a deputy 15 minutes to get to Farwell on a possible breaking and entering in progress, business be damned.

15 min. thats not bad, maybe it was only 10 min. What has changed? If the car was not in the area, or if it was, 5-15 min. is very good. Or are you thinking caught in the act/parked down the st? Tax dollars are already spent for patrol, is it possible that things could be run more efficient? It is business and tax payer dollars.. Oh, those speeders were there when the extra money was spent. There is no bang for the buck, its just a hidden tax. All that should be decided by vote. One of your other post about the embezzelment refered to the big house?hmmmm.. This is actually boring to write about, there are alot of details you are unaware of.
