Credit where credit is due
8 May 2008 - 14:27 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
A sense of pride and a feeling of gratefulness came to me as I drove home from breakfast on Saturday morning the 2nd of May. I came across a crew of cleanup- pickup individuals plying both sides of the road for trash discarded mostly by uncaring residents of Clare County. Read More...

Applaud boards decision
8 May 2008 - 14:26 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
Three reasons I applaud the decision of the Clare board of education not to endorse the day of silence. Children must be trained to identify with virtues such as integrity, empathy and cooperation instead of sensual practices. Read More...

Supporting the Day of Silence
2 May 2008 - 09:37 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (2)
I am writing in support of the students, parents, teachers and staff who sought to carry out a Day of Silence on Friday, April 25 in the Clare public schools to bring attention to bigoted, homophobic bullying and harassment against those students, staff and members of the community who are of a naturally-given sexual orientation that happens to be gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender. Special Needs Christmas Party
2 May 2008 - 09:36 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
Fifteen years ago a new member (Linda Drinkwine) of the Women of the Moose, Harrison Chapter proposed a community service project to provide a special event for children and adults with special needs. At Christmas time, these special guests are treated with lunch, cookies, candy, music, new gloves and hats, a visit from Santa, and a gift. The gathering has grown to over 200 children, adults, parents and caregivers from all over Harrison, Clare, Farewell, Rosebush, Gladwin, Beaverton, and Mt. Pleasant. This is the largest event of this kind in this area. Read More...

Nice to know our police and fire departments care
2 May 2008 - 09:35 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
I want to take a moment and commend our community. I had taken our secretary to lunch for secretary's day when the fire broke out at Ruckle's Pier. The owners responded quickly to evacuate all patrons and even continued to deliver take out orders to those that were watching from outside. Read More...

To: Harrison community school district voters

For more than a year you have read numerous letters to the editor condemning the administration and school board of Harrison Community Schools.
You have been repeatedly asked to recall 3 board members based on many issues pointed out in some of the letters.

“ A Silent Hero”
2 May 2008 - 09:33 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
While reading “bits and pieces”, in the 4-25-08 issueour paper, had a moment of “weakness”, and had to fight back a tear. Although knowing it was “your moment” and most people would just read the article, I couldn’t help starring out the kitchen window and think about your challenge. Read More...

Appreciate board members
2 May 2008 - 09:33 by Administrator Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
A few of Harrison citizens would like to express our opinion about Harrison Community Schools. First we want to talk about where Harrison Community Schools was financially since years 2001; this was the last year with a positive balance. During the years of 2002 through 2006 we were deficient spending, and had to take approximately 1.6 million dollars from our fund equity to balance the budget. Read More...

What is this world coming to?
24 Apr 2008 - 15:22 by CCR Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
I hear this question posted into the air several times a week when something shocking happens or is rehearsed over the news wires. Well, the answer is pretty simple. The Bible says that if you sow beans and reap corn that you are mocking God... and that is just not going to happen. People act like they do because we brought them up to act that way. It is really as simple as that. Read More...

Sad, how sad!
24 Apr 2008 - 15:21 by CCR Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
First and foremost I want to let my very brave daughters and their brave friends know how extremely proud I am of them! The "Day of Silence" was not the "popular" cause to take on. Popularity has never been a motivator for them. Read More...

Back to the drawing board
24 Apr 2008 - 15:18 by CCR Letters to the Editor | comments (0)
As the old “armchair quarterback,” I feel that I have disappointed many of you. Originally it was assumed that I wanted a couple people “fired.” This was never my intention. I just wanted to help repair our broken sports programs. Read More...

Something to consider
21 Apr 2008 - 09:50 by CCR Letters to the Editor | comments (28)
In regards to the untimely death of Bill Scozari last September. It would be nice if people would consider what the elderly parents of this man have been suffering, and every time someone writes what they have no real knowledge about, it’s like putting salt in a wound. Read More...
