130 compete in Pumpkin run

More than 130 runners and walkers started their Saturday with a 5k jaunt along the Pere Marquette Rail Trail competing in the 1st Clare Pumpkin Run. Many runners sported costumes as they competed for Clare Cash in the event’s costume contest.

The Pumpkin Run was part of Clare’s Spooktacular celebration and was organized by Clare DDA/Main Street. 15 year old Zachary Workman of Mesick was the first male finisher at 18:08. Elizabeth Valasek of East Lansing took the women’s title in 22:46. All runners received a medal and a t shirt, and organizers are already planning next year’s run with a tentative date of October 19, 2013. Title sponsors were Mid-Michigan Health, Cops & Doughnuts, Edward Jones Investments of Clare, and the Clare Kiwanis Club.
