Ardis Kathryn Hales Bowers, passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Rainbow Point AFC in Clare. Ardis was born July 19, 1919 at home in Vernon Township, Clare, Michigan the eldest of eight children of Raymond and Salina (Haines) Hales. She married Francis Bowers of Marshall County, West Virginia on July 23, 1938 and she always said he came to Michigan to find a wife since he was related to everyone in West Virginia. They had nearly 65 happy years together; he preceded her in death on March 12, 2002. Ardis was a longtime member of the Clare Church of the Nazarene. She retired from the Mt. Pleasant State Home and Training School where she worked teaching homemaking skills to mentally impaired girls. She loved gardening and grew a variety of beautiful flowers. She was a sweet and gentle person and if you met her, you loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Marvin) Krell and Nancy (Francis Loar) Keenon both of Clare; her granddaughters Julie (Jim) Lewis of Houghton Lake; Trisha Keenon and Tracie Keenon both of Clare, Denise Wiggins of Coleman; grandsons Marvin (Michele Grover) and Frank (JoAnna) of Clare and Michael (Leslie) of Sanford; and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Florence Carr of Bradenton, Florida and brothers Robert (Nellie) Hales of Indiana and Glen (Marlene) Hales of Clare. Ardis was preceded in death by her daughter Caroline Rebecca Bowers, grandson Francis Loar, Jr., siblings Calvin, Richard and Raymond Hales and Shirley Wilcox.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from the Clare Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jim Young officiating. Burial will be in the Vernon Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ardis’ name to either the Battered Women of Clare County or to the Clare County Baby Pantry.
