On 7-26-13 Clare County Sheriff Deputies made contact at a residence on Knollwood Road in Hayes Township regarding the apprehension of a fugitive absconder. Upon making contact Deputies learned that the absconder was present in the home. Deputies were denied access to the home and the fugitive fled out the back door of the home to avoid capture. Deputies apprehended the fugitive in the backyard after a 45 year old male attempted to stop Deputies from making the arrest. Deputies arrested the absconder, a 25 year old male from Harrison, for his warrants; a 45 year old male from Harrison for resisting and obstructing police and harboring a fugitive; and a 22 year old male also from Harrison that was also at the residence for an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The 25 and 45 year old males remain lodged in the Clare County Jail. The 22 year old male has posted bond and is pending arraignment.
On 7-29-13 the following arraignments occurred in 80th District Court by Magistrate Karen Willing.
Melvin Smith, age 25 of Harrison, was arraigned on Resisting / Obstructing Police, Absconding / Forfeiting Bond, Domestic Violence, and Malicious Destruction of Property under $200. His bond was set at $1,550,000 cash / surety. He remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.
Melvin Smith, age 45 of Harrison, was arraigned on Resisting / Obstructing Police and Harboring Fugitives / Felons. His bond was set at $250,000 cash / surety. He remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.
