Basketball teams distribute food

Twenty-five members of the Clare and Farwell’s Girls Basketball teams joined forces last weekend at McGuire’s Chevrolet to distribute food to needy area families. The money to pay for the semi-load of food was raised at the 5K Pumpkin Run in Clare.

Farwell and Clare Varsity girls’ basketball players may be competitive on the court, but when it comes to helping others they provided a true team spirit. On Saturday, January 5, 2013 the two teams came together to help distribute food commodities at McGuire Chevrolet.

Over 25 girls arrived at McGuire’s and volunteered for over 3 hours to help package vegetables, set out meats, canned goods, baked items, to have them be readily available to fill over 300 baskets. The girls carried recipient’s baskets and boxes to their cars.

Last October, the girls ran in the 5K pumpkin run in Clare, for which they raised $2000.00 in pledges. The money supplied one semi-truck full of food for this event. This great group of girls showed what team work is all about. They look forward to making this a yearly tradition.

The Gathering, a United Methodist Church from Harrison, promotes the Community Food Truck to which McGuire Chevrolet is just one of the many sponsors of the food drive which are held once a month. Pastor Mike, of The Gathering, organizes these events.
