Clare led 12-7 after the first quarter of Saturday night’s non-conference basketball game at Central Michigan University. However, the Aggies scored at least 22 points in every quarter the rest of the way to hand the Pioneers a 78-48 loss.
“We got off to a great start,” Clare head coach Rob Wise said. “We got tired and our defense started to suffer. They were getting easy drives to the basket and easy scores. Our ball handling was also poor. At times we were having trouble bringing it up the court.”
Beal City took a 32-35 lead at the half before using 22-10 and 24-13 margins in the third and fourth quarters to pull away for the win.
Colton Punches led Clare with 11 points, Mason Packard had eight and Spencer Harrell added eight points and eight rebounds.
Clare (3-5) hosted Gladwin in Jack Pine Conference play on Wednesday and play at Houghton Lake tonight (Friday). They play at Farwell on Monday in a make-up contest from a game originally scheduled for Jan. 11.
