Ashleigh is 13 years old and is one of three children in the world that was giant soft celled bone tumor-non bone related that has taken over her spinal column. The giant cell tumor of bone commonly known as GCTB, is a benign but locally aggressive bone tumor of young adults of 20–40 years of age. It constitutes about 4–5% of all bone tumors and about 18% of all benign bone tumors. It is slightly more common in females.
Ashleigh’s tumor was located under her spine and stretched all the way to her shoulder. One day she had awakened in the middle of the night complaining that her legs were numb. The tumor was causing paralysis in her legs. After surgery and time in Intensive Care, she is now struggling to walk again. Her family and friends are hoping for a full recovery, but it will be a long road.
