The Knights of Columbus building will be designated as the Harrison meal site for Clare County Senior Services.
County Commissioners on Wednesday authorized paying $128,000 for the 4,000 square foot building at 212 S. Broad Street that has been used as an emergency shelter for courthouse employees in the past.
Senior Services director Lori Ware said a new site came about when Hayes Township made plans to close the Grant Avenue community center that has been the meal site for years. Ware said Harrison has the largest number of home-delivered meals, currently at 30,000, as any meal site in the county. “It is vital we keep a meal site in Harrison,” she said.
The purchase cost includes an equipped kitchen and dining room tables and chairs shown pictured.
