The Clare County Board of Commissioners will be having a work session next week to start the process for formulating next year’s budget, chairperson Karen Lipovsky said.

Activity is relatively quiet for commissioner this time of year, Lipovsky hinted. “It’s pretty normal right now,” she said. “Everybody has their budgets and the things they need.”

Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the commissioners will be meet at Nethercut. It’s a large cabin type building,” Lipovsky said. “We’ll congregate there. The commissioners will have the morning session. We’ll come up with ideas on things we can to work to fix our budget, so we don’t overspend. In the afternoon, department heads and elected officials will meet. We won’t be there.

“The next day, we’ll meet together and go over them all. Hopefully we’ll come up with fresh ideas on things we can cut down on.” There’s a facilitator who will work with both sides.

“We did it probably 15 years ago, but that was strategic planning then. This time, we want to talk strictly budget.”
