CLARE — The Clare County Road Commission is getting ready for a busy summer.

“We have over 95 percent of our 2018 construction projects finalized.” Deepak Gupta Engineer-Manager, said.

He added that the total program so far for this year includes:
33.3 miles of Chip and Seals; 12.9 miles of Asphalt Overlays; 10.25 miles of Gravel road work including drainage; 6 miles of Crack Sealing and 18.25 miles of tree cutting.

“In the last four years, (2015 to 2018), we have chip sealed and/or asphalt overlaid over 80 percent of the primary road system,” Gupta said. “This will include expenditure of approximately 3.5 million dollars for chip seal work. The chip seal work has been critical in maintaining our primary paved road system.

“Part of this work includes using Federal Urban funds of $375,000 with approximately a local match of $90,000 as a shared project with the Village of Farwell.  We are also receiving approximately $500,000 of Federal Rural funds and $100,000 of State funds with a local match $66,000 for some of the chip seal work. Again this year, the townships have stepped up beyond our expectations and plan on providing over $1.1 million dollars for road construction. Some of these dollars are matched by road commission funds. The partnership with the townships continues to be key in providing a safe and good transportation system for the public.”
